Although I'm still collecting Genbu Kaiden, I can't help but admit that the first 3 volumes of Genbu Kaiden had been a huge disappointment for me. I've been waiting for it to come out for so long since it was shown in the magazine, MAGE. I thought it would be the same standard as Fushigi Yugi, its predecessor, but it didn't even come close. Or maybe I'm just biased because I cannot take it that Rimudo, the male lead, is both a woman and a man. Hmm, come to think of it, this thread should be in the Yuri section.
But I also find the storyline quite bland compared to the emotional rollercoaster that is Fushigi Yugi. And the characters are less, shall we say, intriguing. The only droolworthy character is Rimudo, who turns me off for being part a woman. Takiko is also a very boring character. She doesn't have that special oomph that a main lead should have. She's like Yui from Fushigi Yugi. I've never liked that girl.
I'm going to keep an open mind though. Hopefully, Yuu Watase will come up with new, interesting plots for us in the next volumes... *cross fingers*
